22/1/2010Big freeze leaves pothole problems in Culross
Despite the efforts of gritting and maintenance teams during the recent bad weather, a report in the Herald reveals that councils across Scotland are facing an overspend of nearly double on winter maintenance budgets for gritting and snow clearance, with a national bill over nearly £100 million.

You can report potholes and road problems to Fife Council's Road Faults reporting service - call 08451 55 00 11 - to report an emergency out of hours call 08451 55 00 99.
- The roads must be of third world quality in the first instance if they have crumbled so badly because of three weeks adverse weather conditions. There were plenty of potholes in Culross before the "big freeze" anyway. A lot of them generated by the dozens of utility jobs that have been "finished off" to a disgracefully poor standard and then not followed up by Fife Council's roads department. Expect the same excuses in the summer IF the summer weather matches the winter characteristically and we experience a "heatwave" for 3 weeks. It's nothing to do with adverse weather conditions, it's to do with an adversely run council. There are metaphoric potholes in everything they run, from education to refuse collection.

I must totally echo Lynne`s comments.
The quality of the road surface in the Culross area has been very badly neglected for quite some time now and the less than perfect weather conditions of late has just enhanced the already existing problem.
I do know that the roads dept were made aware of the situation during last year but as expected no action was taken.
I also realise we are not on a major trunk road and not a priority case but this lack of any form of remedy leaves a lot to be desired.
It will be interesting to see how long the new "low road" to Kincardine surface will last until it starts to break up.
We pay the same road tax rates as other places so we should receive an equal distribution of the funds collected from such a tax.
