Culross is a picturesque West Fife village on the north of the River Forth, between Kincardine and High Valleyfield. Legend tells it was founded by St Serf in the Sixth Century, and was the birthplace of St Kentigern (St Mungo). Culross Abbey dates to 1217, and the port bustled with trade from the Netherlands in the 16th and 17th Centuries. Its cobbled streets and buildings from this period frame Culross like a snapshot in time, and Culross Abbey, Palace, Town House and other buildings are now preserved by the National Trust for Scotland, but the Royal Burgh is a modern community, and s1culross.com has been developed to allow residents share their news, views and opinions, make announcements, publicise events and show off their photos and videos.

23/5/2008Are cold calls making you hot under the collar?

Ann Macdonald wants to know: How many of us around Culross still receive cold calls, despite having TPS in place? How best to dissuade them? She says she's receiving lots of calls and they always try to say it is a marketing call, not a sales call!

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a central opt out register whereby individuals can register their wish not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls. It is a legal requirement that companies do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS. It's free to register on the TPS.

But is this the catch Ann is referring to: As TPS registration only prevents marketing calls; organisations will still be able to call you for the purposes of genuine market research. Are some companies cloaking marketing as market research...?

Do you have a bee in your bonnet about this too?

Have your say:
